Cycling Planet is as much a piece of Mallorcan history as the velodrome and the Tramuntana. A staple of the Alaro highstreet for over 10 years, it's full to the rafters with memorabilia from the owners pro (and Olympic) cycling career.

When you arrive at Cycling Planet the first thing you'll notice is the sea of people inside and out - it's popular, and buzzing with life. From the outside there is plenty of seating, and signs showing the distance to famous climbs are a nice touch under the shade of trees. Inside is an Aladin's cave of cycling treasures. The shop offers a range of Gobik clothing, spares & souvenirs, and the workshop out the back will help rectify any niggles you might have on the bike. But it's the wealth of history and colourful display of bike parts around the walls that draws your attention. Think London 2012 Athlete accreditations, race numbers, photo finishes and bikes. A strong theme of track racing nods to Sebastian's successful career, framed wonderfully by the back wall (which is covered in wooden panels - actually the original track from Palma velodrome!).
Coffee & Cake
The coffee is generous and ground to order, and as you can see from the photos, the cakes are pretty Epic! Just what we needed on a ride back from Palma, and very much enjoyed in the sunshine out the front. Perfecting the flat white would get this straight up to a 5 out of 5.
Bike Friendly?
Cycling Planet is not just bike friendly, it's build for and around bicyles. Between the workshop out the back and bike racks out the front, you'll find kit, tools, spares, books, magazines, tv screens and even celebrity cyclist autographs on the walls. There is free wifi, a selection of beers and a bunch of positive vibes. What's not to love!?
Service
Simply brilliant. The team are friendly, warm and welcoming you as soon as you walk through the door. Despite being very busy, we waited just a few mintues before our orders came to the table which was genuinley impressive.
Location
Just underneath the Tramunata mountains and almost perfecly halfway across the island - Alaró is undoubtedly a great place for a cafe. Cycling Planet has seating outside with plenty of bike rack space, on a pretty quiet road. It ticks all of the boxes, a solid 5 out of 5!
Summary for Cycling Planet
We can immediately see why this cycling cafe has such legendary status. The people, the story, the services and the coffee/cake combos are brilliant. Quick note on the review process
We either find the cafe's on our cycling adventures, or we're directed to them by friends. From there we rock up on the bike, order coffee, soak up the vibe and speak with the team. Once we've been there 4/5 times we'll write the review.
